Opposition for warehouse in South Harrison Township grows as zoning board meetings gets canceled

Lineage Logistic Services wants to build a cold storage facility and writes it will be "consistent with the surrounding area." - NOV 29, 2023

GET OFF THE COUCH CHALLENGE

At the 17 January 2024 meeting of the South Harrison Planning and Zoning Board, the large number of citizens in attendance were met with surprising and often condescending commentary from members of the board regarding the public’s interest in the current warehouse proliferation in our community, that is, the significant planned expansion of cold storage warehouses by Lineage (applicant) and the Marino family (owners).

Chairperson Mel Robertson stated “previous to this Lineage thing, application, we sat up here month after month with no one coming to these meetings. You have a responsibility as a resident if you want to find out what is going on . . .” That statement was followed by another board member, Mr. Armbruster, apologizing at length for Mr. Robertson’s outburst.  Yet another member of the board, Mr. Robert Schenk, offered the following comment: “I mean, it does take a little bit of, uh effort to get off your couch and come out to these meetings.” These comments insinuated that the citizens of this town are too apathetic or lazy to actively participate in their local Government.
